Made Possible By You: Anni’s Story
Anni was a 77-year-old woman living with end-stage COPD. Fiercely independent, she faced the end of her life with courage, but also isolation, financial strain, and a daughter who struggled with her decision to pursue MAiD.
She wanted a peaceful, supported passing, but she couldn’t afford the compounded medication needed to ensure a peaceful passing.
Through the Empowered Endings Foundation, Anni received full financial assistance for her medication and pharmacy costs. That single act of generosity changed everything.
With her financial burden lifted, her care team could focus entirely on comfort, reflection, and emotional peace. The fear and anxiety that had gripped her dissolved, replaced by calm, confidence, and control over her final days.
On her final day, she was described as “calm, clear, and smiling through her oxygen mask.” She passed gently, without fear or struggle. Her daughter later expressed gratitude that her mother did not suffer.
Dr. Charfen shared:
“This support does more than provide medication. It restores humanity. It transforms fear into peace and ensures no one faces death feeling abandoned or unseen.”
